"...it was anything but normal times in Washington..."
The Fall of Newt Gingrich (PBS)
In August, 1998, producers David Crouse and Michael Pack began production on what was to be a behind the scenes look at the second most powerful political office in the United States: the Speaker of the House.
Over the course of those four months what the producers saw and recorded was anything but business as usual in Washington. It was a period of remarkable drama, tremendous upheaval,
including the moving of articles of impeachment against the President of the United States, the 1998 elections, where Republicans were trying to maintain majority control of the U.S. House. It culminated in the stunning resignations of, first, U.S. Congressman Bob Livingston, who was to succeed Gingrich as Speaker of the House, and then Gingrich himself. A production of Manifold Productions.
